Day 7

3rd November 2007

I arrived at The Academy full of enthusiasm for the start of my second week.

Lee informed us that only two trainees would be chosen for the live hair show in front of industry professionals. I wondered if being chosen was a good of bad thing. Imagine the pressure.

My first client this morning was Teresa Spencer, a client of Lee’s salon in Lea-on Sea. He seemed to enjoy telling me that his business partner normally cuts her hair. This certainly put the pressure on me, which I’m sure was his intention Teresa’s haircut went very well. She was pleased. Lee said it was fantastic, and she wrote a lovely feedback for me too. A good start.

After a quick sweep up, my chair was filled with my next client. Another cut that went well.

Without stopping for lunch, I was called to do a manicure. My nail painting is getting better.

My final cut off the day was for Carina. She had very long hair, but without any layers. She asked me to put some layers in. I suggested a sweeping fringe too. Lee wanted me to try a new layering technique. Firstly, the hair is sectioned into a circle around the crown, then divided into four quarters. The remaining hair is sectioned and tied out the way. Easier aid than done Lee! I spent over two hours sectioning Carina’s hair. Two hours! It had to be a perfect circle with perfect quarters. Eventually Ninia stepped in to give me a hand. I was struggling with aching arms and legs. She’s fab. Sectioning done, the cut was easy. At the eleventh hour, Carina’s style was complete, and she was happy.
